Company Profile & History

NationJob has been successfully linking communities, employers, industries and job seekers for over 20 years.  The company was initially formed as the National Employment Wire Service Corporation (N.E.W.S.) in California in 1988. The original business of the Company was to advertise job openings on stand-alone personal computers placed in college career centers, updated via modem transfer or mailed diskettes. The Company's network of sites grew with the purchase of the assets of two competitors--Career Counseling Network and Joblink--and with the installation of systems into public libraries, shopping centers, and onto military bases. At its peak, the network exceeded 400 installed sites in the US and in Europe.

The Company headquarters was moved to Iowa in 1992 due to a strong Midwest economy, and lower operating costs.

The Company began offering service via the Internet in January, 1995. The years of experience & management of a computerized job listing service provided a good basis on which to build success, and site traffic grew rapidly. In April 1995, the Company became NationJob, Inc.

In September, 1995, NationJob introduced its first four Specialty Sites in specific employment categories, the first use of functional category distribution by a job listing service. In October, the P.J. Scout agent service debuted, one of the earliest successful uses of push technology on the web. Custom Jobs Pages and Community Pages--job listing sites for specific companies and geographic areas--soon followed, and these were also major innovations at the time.

As Internet access became more commonplace, job seekers at NationJob sites began to access the service through the web rather than the stand-alone sites. The stand-alone network was gradually curtailed and finally shut down, with the last diskette update taking place in October, 1997.
