Child Start, formerly Child Care Association, is a not-for-profit organization committed to quality services for young children. Child Start is an umbrella organization for four major components. The company employs upward of 250 part-time and full-time employees.

Child Start's mission is to provide comprehensive early childhood services and support to ensure children enter school ready to learn.

The components of the Association are:

The HEAD START PROGRAM is a comprehensive child development program. Head Start is a federally funded program administrated by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The program consists of:

A Center Based Program which serves preschool children to prepare children for a future of continued learning; Provide a group socialization to help children grow educationally, socially, physically, and emotionally; Total family involvement to enrich the parent/child relationship; Assist parents in obtaining needed services for their family.

The EARLY HEAD START PROGRAM promotes family unity, attachment and self-sufficiency for pregnant teens and families with children ages birth to age 3. Early Head Start is a federally funded program administered by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Program information includes:

Child must be enrolled by 30 months; Each family receives weekly home visits from a Family Educator and attends a weekly Socialization & Parent Education class; Families must meet Federal Income Guidelines; Children may have suspected and/or diagnosed disability; EHS also offers family and social services referrals for enrolled children and their families.

Kansas Early Head Start is funded by State SRS and is for families who have children birth to age 4 and who work and/or go to school at least 30 hours per week (child must be enrolled by 42 months; child attends free full-day, full year child care in an KEHS Partner Site; Families receive monthly home visits from a Family Educator (1.5 hrs); Families must meet Federal Income Guidelines; Children may have suspected and/or diagnosed disability.

The CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM (CACFP) is a federally funded program administered by the State Department of Education. This program reimburses licensed/registered/military family child care providers for meals and snacks served to children in care.

The CHILD CARE RESOURCE AND REFERRAL PROGRAM (CCR&R) is funded in part by the United Way, fees for services and local fundraising. The two major components of this Program are as follows:

Resource and Referral Service. It is a strong computerized network that links child care providers who have openings with parents looking for child care.

Professional Development Service. A program that provides professional seminars for care givers, professional consultation, monthly sharing group, resource library, informative newsletters and toy lending library.

BENEFITS:

Health Insurance: Child Start pays 50% per employee per month toward the cost of major medical insurance. Employee +1 coverage and Family coverage are also available.

Dental Insurance: Child Start offers group dental insurance through Delta Dental at the employee's cost.

Life Insurance: Child Start pays the entire cost of a term life insurance policy. The benefit is two times your annual salary.

Long Term Disability: Almost all of our programs pay the premium for a long term disability plan.

Retirement Plan: Each employee can contribute to Child Start's 403(b) Retirement Plan. After one year of employment, Child Start will match dollar for dollar your contribution (up to 4% of your salary).

Vacation Leave: Full time employees earn 10 days vacation per year. Staff who work less than 40 hrs/wk earn vacation leave on a pro-rated basis.

Holidays: Child Start offers 8 paid holidays each year, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King's Birthday; Memorial Day; Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving with Friday after and Christmas Day.

Sick and Personal Leave: Child Start offers sick leave and personal leave benefits for all regular employees.

Supplemental Insurance Coverage: Child Start offers each employee the opportunity to choose a variety of additional insurance coverage and a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account plan through AFLAC.
