Community First Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative, one of the things that sets us apart from other financial institutions. Members deposit their money in a variety of deposit accounts, and that money, in turn, is lent to other members. After operating expenses and reserve requirements are met, profits are returned to each member in the form of dividends and low-cost or free financial tools and services.
At Community First, all members profit—individually and collectively. There is no select group of shareholders that profits more than anyone else. Each of our members has one vote, regardless of how much he or she has on deposit.
Community First was established in 1975 to improve the quality of our members' lives by providing them with high quality, competitive financial products and services that anticipate and exceed their needs. We strive to be our members' primary financial services provider by:

With assets of over $1 billion, Community First Credit Union serves more than 77,621 members in 12 counties in Northeastern and Central Wisconsin . Membership is open to anyone who lives or works in Outagamie, Winnebago, Calumet, Manitowoc , Waupaca, Brown, Fond du Lac , Green Lake , Oconto, Shawano, Sheboygan , and Waushara counties. We are governed by a Board of Directors that establishes and reviews policies. Our directors are Community First members who are elected by the membership and serve without pay.
The common bond of concern for others founded Community First Credit Union and lies at the heart of our "Community Service/Corporate Contributions" philosophy. Sponsorships, financial contributions and volunteerism give us the opportunity to impact and grow our members' quality of life. We strive to live our mission by contributing to the economic, social well-being, and quality of life in all of the communities where our members live and work.
One of our largest community sponsorships is as title sponsor for the Community First Fox Cities Marathon Festival of Races , celebrating its 18th year in September 2008. This event bridges several of our communities, promotes wellness, and provides a variety of races, activities, and events for the entire family. A few of the other numerous community organizations and events we sponsor include: Children's Miracle Network, Housing Partnership of the Fox Cities , Special Olympics, and United Way , along with several others.
A strong supporter of the financial literacy, we choose to live out that commitment in tangible ways. In 2003, Community First was a founding partner and sponsor of the Fox Cities Money Conference, which we continue to support as a participating sponsor. In the same community spirit, beginning in 1999, we formed a unique local partnership with the Appleton and Oshkosh school districts to promote financial literacy in area schools. In addition to creating financial literacy curriculum now taught as part of Appleton students' graduation requirements, we placed credit union branches in all three Appleton high schools and at Oshkosh West over a course of three years. Working as tellers in the high school branches gives students practical, hands-on job experience and offers them the opportunity to learn first-hand about money management.
Our commitment to community involvement stems from a fundamental belief that as a business we want to reach beyond providing jobs and income. We want to be active participants in the communities we serve, partnering with our neighbors to make a real difference in people's lives.
