Mission Statement
To enrich social, economic, and environmental vitality, Franklin County will provide services which are responsive to the health, safety, and general welfare needs of County residents.
The County government is dedicated to providing these services through the efficient and effective use of the County's available resources in an honest, open, and caring manner.
- Franklin County is located in south central Pennsylvania approximately midway between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The southern boundary of the County is also the boundary between Pennsylvania and Maryland. The County encompasses an area of 774 square miles and had an estimated population in 2000 of 127,000. The population of the County has grown steadily over the last several decades.
- The County is a fifth class county and is administered by a board of three County Commissioners who are elected to four-year terms. The County provides general government services as well as public safety, health and welfare and community enrichment and development programs. The County owns and operates the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the County Prison. The County also appoints the members of the Franklin County Housing Authority, Franklin County Industrial Development Authority, the Franklin County General Authority and the Letterkenny Industrial Development Authority. Normal hours of operation for Franklin County are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Franklin County employees earn a competitive wage as well as a very rich benefit package. Employees become eligible for benefits such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a cafeteria plan on the first of the month following date of hire. Earning of benefit time, such as vacation, sick leave, annual day, and holiday pay begins as of the date of hire.
