Howard County Economic Development Authority
About Us
In our privatized role as the County's economic development agency, the Authority assists businesses with land and building selection, financing, employee recruitment and training, permit and regulatory issues, and provides other development support services.
Our Mission:
- to promote economic growth and stability in Howard County by supporting existing businesses, attracting targeted new businesses and attracting corporate and/or regional headquarters;
- to serve as liaison between public and private economic development and planning organizations; and
- to recommend policies to County government that support the achievement of planned economic goals.
Vision 2011:
Howard County is a dynamic, diverse, vibrant, culturally enriched and globally competitive community, in perpetual renewal, fueled by education, innovation and involvement and strengthened by high quality of life and economic vitality.
Economic Development Strategic Plan:
During the fall of 2005, the Strategic Plan for Economic Development was developed by a diverse committee comprised of representatives from local, regional and state government agencies, the private sector, education and community organizations.
The 2006 Strategic Plan evaluates our strengths and challenges and outlines themes upon which to focus the Authority's efforts. The Plan stresses the importance of developing regional partnerships, with an emphasis on the Authority's role. The other areas of focus are economic reinvestment in previously developed areas, strengthening our knowledge community and the importance of entrepreneurship.
