Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc., formerly a division of Reynolds & Taylor, Inc., was established and incorporated in May 1987. The parent company, Reynolds & Taylor, Inc., was founded in 1960 by Mr. Roger R. Reynolds, Jr. and Mr. Glen H. Taylor. Reynolds & Taylor, Inc., was involved in the manufacturing of plastic composite components for aerospace and defense contractors. The acrylic division was formed in 1980, in a major departure from the company's traditional manufacturing processes. Thus began what was to become Reynolds Polymer Technology, Inc.
The early years were spent in research and development in an attempt to manufacture monolithic acrylic castings that were unavailable from commercial manufacturers of acrylic rod, tube and sheet. Success was achieved and the process utilized in projects for:
- Development of manned submersibles

- Hyperbaric units for the medical community
- The world's largest single pour acrylic viewing panels for commercial aquarium and oceanarium markets
