This 1875 property, a member of Historic Hotels of America, offers 61 guest rooms, each uniquely decorated with period furnishings, and adorned with custom designed quilts. Many of the rooms have views of the river and feature whirlpool baths.
Owned and operated by the Red Wing Shoe Company, the St. James has always played a pivotal role in the Red Wing Community. With over 15,500 square feet of distinctive meeting space and complete conference and banquet services, the St. James is well suited for multiple functions and is considered a preferred venue by meeting planners throughout the region.
The top level Summit Room seats 300 for banquets and offers unsurpassed panoramic views of the Mississippi River and Hiawatha Valley. It is also the site of the St. James' popular Sunday brunches. Other distinctive spaces include the Victorian Dining Room, adorned with ornamental tin ceilings and period furniture and the cozy Library, outfitted with leather chairs, game tables and an enormous fireplace.
The St. James also features three full service restaurants. The award-winning Port Restaurant serves dinner daily in a warm club-like atmosphere on the lower level, the Veranda, a bright, airy space overlooking the Mississippi River, is open for lunch and dinner and Jimmy's Pub, a turn-of-the-century club, serves a wonderful selection of beers, wines and spirits, and offers entertainment on weekends.
The St. James was named a top historic property by the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota in 2006, has received the Wine Spectator Award for its Port Restaurant each year since 2001, and was rated a top property in the state by the 2003 Zagat Guide, which described it as "the best kept secret in the Midwest."
