Volusia County School District Vision Statement:

The School District of Volusia County is a thriving, growing school district that this year has enrolled more than 65,000 students. The county is approximately 1,200 square miles in size with more than 400,000 residents. We are a kindergarten through twelfth grade school system with over 8,000 instructional and support personnel. Volusia County Schools is the 10th largest school district in Florida and among the 50 largest school districts in the nation. The school district is the county's largest employer. It is the first Charter School District in the state of Florida and one of the largest in the country. The purpose in being designated as a Charter School District is to achieve a significant acceleration in student achievement. For the 2003-2004 school year the district's graduation rate was 83.0 percent; more than 11.4 percent higher than the state average of 71.6 percent. This is the second best rate among the 10 largest Florida school districts. Volusia's dropout rate was 1.3 percent compared to the state average of 3.0 percent, the fourth best among the 10 largest school districts.
