Position Summary
Performs the primary functions of a pediatric occupational therapist: Assessment of patient functioning, development of treatment plans, provision of patient treatment, and counseling of the patient and family as it relates to occupational therapy functions. Maintains a caseload that is scheduled at no less than a 75% productivity rate. Must adhere to the Code of Ethics of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Is responsible for managing all assigned personnel, students and volunteers. Adheres to all accreditation requirements and personnel policies. Must strive to promote teamwork inter- and intra-departmentally and work professionally with physicians and individuals in the community.
Job Qualifications Education
BS or MA/MS degrees from an Occupational Therapy Program.
Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)
Registry with NBCOT (National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.)
BLS certification required by the end of conditional period.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
1. A minimum of 6 to 9 months internship experience, preferably at least 3 months in pediatric rehabilitation. Must be knowledgeable in growth and development of children from birth to age 18. Requires knowledge of professional and theoretical aspects of occupational therapy including neurological and functional disorders as well as basic knowledge of sensory integration, neurodevelopmental treatment and handling techniques.
2. Pursues programs of continuing education consistent with areas of expertise. Participates in educational conferences, and updates and maintains professional knowledge and skills related to areas of responsibilities.
3. Must have good judgement, problem solving, oral and written communication, and time management skills. Must have clear articulation; aided hearing acuity must be adequate enough to comprehend speech spoken at a normal loudness level; visual acuity necessary to accurately present patients with diagnostic and treatment tasks; manual dexterity to operate equipment and computers; ability to lift and move equipment with or without assistance; ability to reliably administer diagnostic tests; ability to accurately use and maintain therapeutic equipment and supplies; and ability to effectively counsel patients and their families.

Working Environment/Physical Activities
Position requires considerable standing, driving, lifting, walking, reaching, bending, sitting and keyboarding. The candidate must be capable of lifting and transferring patients and moving equipment with or without assistance and have manual dexterity to operate equipment and computers. Must be physically able to maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
1. May be required to provide services in more than one clinic or treatment area.
2. May be required to drive between rehabilitation center, clinics, schools and patient homes.
3. Could be exposed to infectious disease daily due to patient contact.
4. Risk of contact with combative patients.
5. Moderate to high stress level caused by frequent exposure to high risk patients and situations, busy work environment, and rapidly changing situations, interruptions, schedule changes.
6. Occasional stressful encounters with staff, patients, families and physicians.
7. Hours may include holidays, weekends, and/or extended hours depending on job necessity..
