PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE
Groom the snow on trails using specialized snow grooming equipment with a focus on more difficult terrain and equipment. Provide supervision and training to other groomers. Responsible for ensuring that the finished product on a section of the mountain meets company expectations.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
* Provide superior service to our customers (internal and external) by following the Resort Etiquette Guidelines.
* Inspect equipment at the start and finish of each shift to ensure it is in proper working order.
* Groom ski trails on assigned "hill". Oversee and assist with normal grooming operations, including monitoring of snow quality and quantity.
* Provide on hill supervision to junior groomers.
* Assist with the planning and assigning of grooming schedules for shifts.
* Perform regular equipment maintenance tasks. Check fluid levels, bolts, belts, crossbars, track tension, etc.
* Perform or assist with minor equipment repairs; assist junior groomers.
* Prepare daily driver's logs and/or reports on grooming activities.
* Develop and enforce resort safety procedures. Assist in conducting safety meetings when needed.
* Ensure driver's logs for section are complete and accurate.
* Take part in departmental research and development of grooming activities and snow characteristics.
* Change equipment as necessary during the shift.
* Coordinate grooming activities on hill such with other departments (snowmaking, lifts etc.) as necessary.
* Assist with planning summer activities such as trail maintenance or construction.
WORKING RELATIONSHIP
Functional and partial administrative supervision of grooming staff of up to 15 groomers. Supervision is received from the Grooming/Trails Manager.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
* Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
* Ability to bend, lift and carry heavy objects.
* Equipment vibrations, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
* High School education or equivalent, plus 3-5 years grooming experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
* Advanced knowledge of resort trail network, snow characteristics and grooming equipment.
* Ability to operate heavy machinery.
* Previous supervisory experience in construction field.
* Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
