Duties:
These positions involve assisting a physician by providing diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services under the guidance of the physician. The work requires knowledge of specific observation and examination procedures, and ability to perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks. The work does not include the full scope of interpretation of medical findings requiring the full professional background of the licensed physician. Physicians assistants assist in the examination and observation of patients by performing such duties as taking case histories, conducting physical examinations, and ordering laboratory studies during hospital rounds and clinic visits.

About the Position:
Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. This includes providing with your application, a copy of the agency notice, a copy of your most recent Performance Rating and a copy of your most recent SF-50 noting current position, grade level, and duty location. Qualifications:
General Schedule
* A broad background of knowledge of the medical environment, practices, and procedures such as would be required by a Bachelors degree in a health care occupation such as nursing, medical technology, or physical therapy, or by 3 years of responsible and progressive health care experience such as medical corpsman, nursing assistant, or medical technician; and successful completion of a certificate or diploma program of at least 12 months, including clinical training or preceptorship, specifically designed for professional-caliber physicians assistants that provided the knowledge and ability required to take a detailed medical history, to conduct a physical examination, to follow observation procedures, to order and perform diagnostic and therapeutic OR Successful completion of a full 4-year program for physician assistants leading to a Bachelors degree. The course of study or training must be approved by a nationally-recognized professional body such as the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or by a panel of physicians established by a Federal agency for this purpose.
EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION: Applicants who have completed 3 full years of a curriculum in an accredited medical school leading to the Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy may qualify at the GS-11 level.
IN ADDITION TO MEETING THE ABOVE REQUIREMENT, THE FOLLOWING MUST BE MET:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify applicants must possess 1 yr specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Specialized experience is defined as performing professional caliber medical work as a physicians assistant with minimal supervision, including exercising judgement in integrating and interpreting diagnostic findings and in determining the need for referral to a physician.
