NSPS Position:

Duties:
Serves as dental officer in a clinic providing direct patient care. Performs a range of professional dental tasks of a general dentistry nature. Duties include the more difficult cases in any or all of the following areas: oral and maxillofacial surgery, periodontics, endodontics, pedodontics/orthodontics, prosthodontics, restorative dentistry, oral pathology/oral medicine, and preventive dentistry. The dental officer recognizes and refers unusually difficult cases to a specialist. Supervises ancillary dental personnel. Ensures that management policies and procedures are adhered to. Is responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of dental records, consultations, and any other medical records pertaining to the dental patient. Performance of duties involves treating all types of patients including those who may have behavior or communication problems. Prepares treatment plans and manages or coordinates the treatment of patients. Performs other duties as assigned.

About the Position:
Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. Basic Requirements:
  • Licensure:Must be currently licensed to practice dentistry in a State, DC, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the U.S.A.
  • Education:Degree in Dental Surgery (DDS) or Dental Medicine (DMD) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA); or other dental school, provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA-approved school.

Requirements in addition to the Basic Requirements:
Experience and/or training must be one of the following types: Post-licensure professional experience in the general practice of dentistry; Approved internship training; Approved residency training; Graduate-level study in an accredited dental school; Post-licensure professional experience in a specialized area of practice; Other advanced study or training (outside a dental school or hospital) creditable towards satisfaction of training program requirements for Board eligibility.

Specialized Experience: Two years of professional dentistry experience and/or training; or superior academic ability defined as that demonstrated by an intern, who on the basis of an evaluation of all interns who have completed training in the same hospital or in the same kind of internship program over the past 5 years, would fall into the upper half of the group.For further information regarding qualifications Click Here
