NSPS Position:

Duties:
Completes a comprehensive nutrition assessment of each patient, considering lifestyle factors, actual body weight vs. desired body weight, presence or absence of disease states, personal and family medical history, medication use, laboratory values, and macronutrient and micronutrient intake and requirements. In the inpatient setting, utilizes screening data provided by the diet technician as a baseline for determining the need for comprehensive assessment. Reviews diet orders as prescribed by the physician and makes necessary calculations in order to personalize a nutrition care plan for the patient's lifestyle and nutritional needs. Monitors laboratory values in order to recommend a medical nutrition therapy regimen. Makes recommendations to physicians about appropriate nutritional care. Evaluates the effectiveness of medical nutrition therapy by reviewing patient outcomes. Provides follow-up services for continuity of care. Educates patients on eating habits.

About the Position:
Federal employees seeking CTAP/ICTAP eligibility must submit proof that they meet the requirements of 5 CFR 330.605(a) for CTAP and 5 CFR 330.704 for ICTAP. Qualifications:
General Schedule
Basic Requirements: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelors Degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. Curricula must have been approved by The American Dietetic Association (ADA) at the time of graduation. You MUST indicate the year of your degree(s), number of hours, the overall GPA for your undergraduate course work, the name of the university or college, the type of degree and in what area. If selected, you will be required to submit a certified copy of your transcripts before a start date is set.

LICENSURE/REGISTRATION: Applicant must possess professional registration as a registered dietitian from the American Dietetic Association as well as state licensure as a dietitian. Please state the type of registration and type of licensure you possess and from where those registrations and licensure were obtained from. Failure to do so will result in non-consideration of your resume.

In addition to meeting the basic entry qualification requirements, applicant must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to pay band 1 level. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Examples include using the latest information and teaching concepts in developing and presenting individual and group instructions in various areas of nutrition management; Interviews patients to obtain information concerning eating patterns, cultural background, and other conditions which influence food preferences and preparation; Coordinates diet therapy and education activities.
