Duties:
Serves as a Family Practice Physician and Primary Care Manager (PCM). Responsible for primary care of approximately 1500 military health service (MHS) beneficiaries outpatient setting. Scope of services include, but are not limited to, examination, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of medical, surgical, obstetric, gynecological, and orthopedic care.
Provides a full scope of family practice services. Serves as the primary care physician for infants, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients who have both acute and chronic illnesses and conditions covering the entire spectrum of medicine, including general and subspecialty surgical, gynecologic, psychiatric, and other illnesses and conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, coronary heart disease,).
Sees patients, takes histories, performs physical examinations, orders x-ray, diagnostic and laboratory tests, diagnoses, and treats all of the above and other family practice type illnesses, and refers to specialty/subspecialty care.
About the Position:
**Required to perform on call duties as the Medical or Pediatric Officer of the day after normal duty hours.
The incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief of Primary Care, IACH. Serves as an expert in the field of family medicine. The individual exercises independent judgment in selection and performance of the full range of diagnostic procedures for patients. Incumbent works independently in accordance with methods and practices of the medical profession and established administrative policies as an expert in the field of Family Practice. Medical diagnoses are based on evaluation and reviewed by internal chart review. Has considerable latitude for professional technical decisions, overall effectiveness, and accomplishment of objectives.

Basic Requirements:
Degree:
MD or DO from a school in the US or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. An MD or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the US may be demonstrated by permanent certification by ECFMG or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the US and graduate education in a foreign country.
Graduate Training:
Subsequent to obtaining an MD or DO, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the US or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians.
Licensure:
For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, DC, Puerto Rico, or a territory of the US.
Additional Requirements:
In addition to meeting above basic requirements, applicants must have completed 4 years of graduate training or equivalent experience and training plus 1 year of appropriate experience. Must be board eligible/certified in Family Practice.

NSPS - This position is a TERM position. It is temporary and may be extended up to a maximum of six years.
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses may be authorized.
