Job Summary:
Performs diagnostic and procedural coding of all inpatient or ambulatory, and emergency service diagnoses and conditions, working from the appropriate documentation in the health record of the patient. Classification systems include ICD-9-CM and CPT-4, for the purpose of data collection, research, regulatory compliance and financial reimbursement in accordance with national and hospital-specific coding guidelines. Maintains applicable productivity and quality standards and performs these functions in a timely manner to facilitate effective and efficient data submission.
REQUIREMENTS:
Certifications from the American Health Information Management Association as either a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and less then 2 years experience coding in an acute care setting is required. CCS Certification must be obtained within 3 years of hire. Or Non-RHIA/ RHIT or Non-CCS credentialed coder who has successfully completed courses in medical terminology, human anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding classifications. A Minimum of two years coding experience in an acute care Health Information Management Department is required. CCS Certification must be obtained within 3 years of hire.
