Job Description:
The MRI Technologist works under the supervision of Team Leader and Lead Technologist in Radiology. Prepares for exams; assists in patient care and comfort; implements physician and supervisor requests for patient care; assists attending radiologist or physician; records information on patient log sheet and film media; makes accurate records of all supplies; compiles properly marked films into properly marked film jackets; schedules specific times for exams, considering priority; accurately completes exams and charges supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Employee in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Performs MRI procedures and records images according to department protocol.
Explains procedures and prepares the patient for the exam.
Screen all patients for ferro-magnetic material on or in the patient.
Gathers patient history and reviews with the Radiologist to determine the appropriate protocol.
Communicates with patients, families, physicians and staff regarding patient's clinical information.
Assists with the orientation and training of new staff and students.
Administers contrast material.
In the Radiology computer system, ensures charges reflect the exam(s) performed and the exam is Qaed and verified.
Performs CPR when required.
Documents and verifies procedures.
Communicates effectively and respectfully with Team Leader and Lead Technologist.
Follows RESPECT Plus and Core Behaviors.
Job Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Completion of AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology.
LICENSURE: Registered by American Registry of Radiologic Technology. Registered in Magnetic Resonance Imaging within one year of completion of clinical training in MRI Department. BLS certification required.
EXPERIENCE: Six months preferred.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Inputting data, calibrating equipment, answering telephone, speaking clearly, manipulating small items, fine motor skills, knowledge of body mechanics and CPR. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Effective communication skills and ability to interact with patients, staff, visitors, physicians, etc. Must work well as a team member.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Manipulating numbers, interpreting data, explaining, assessing appropriateness of exam, adaptability, reading, and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Visual skills, hearing and speaking.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Radiation, body fluids, needle puncture, hazardous materials
OTHER: Employees must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age group(s): Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal
