Montgomery College has three campuses located in Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park, as well as off-campus sites and a Workforce Development & Continuing Education division to serve residents throughout Montgomery County, Maryland.
Montgomery College's DRIVER EDUCATION program seeks a Classroom and Behind the Wheel Instructor for the MD Motor Vehicle Administration's Driver Education program. Schedule must be flexible as hours per week depend on enrollment and season; Ideal position for retired teacher. Must meet MVA driving record prerequisites, submit to a background investigation and meet college adjunct faculty standards. MVA Certification required.
Job Qualifications:
* Course schedules and instructor assignments vary. Classes held evenings and weekends year around, with some daytime courses in the summer. Must be available for 5-7 hours between 8am and 8pm on Saturday and/or Sunday for BTW/In-car lessons
* Must have a satisfactory driving record, as it must be approved by Montgomery College and MVA.
* Must have excellent time-management, documentation skills, communication and presentation skills.
* Pay ranges from $20-25/hour for in-car instruction and $30-40/hour for classroom instruction
* Hours vary up to 30 hours per week depending on enrollment and season. Currently we offer 10 courses per year at the Gaithersburg Business Training Center with a maximum class size of 22.
* Montgomery College is willing to pay for certification training in return for a teaching commitment. Training courses range from 2-5 weeks, schedules vary; training locations vary (Olney, Frederick, Baltimore, etc.)
Qualifications from MD MVA, Motor Vehicle Administration:
* Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalence certificate.
* Instructors may not instruct for more than one provider without the knowledge and approval of the Motor Vehicle Administration.
* Have no convictions of a crime of moral turpitude unless evidence is presented in the opinion of the MVA, that satisfactory rehabilitation has taken place.
* Must have a valid drivers' license with no more than 5 points in the last three years.
* Must be at least 21 years of age.
* Education requirement, at least one of the following:
* 4 years of experience in motor vehicle testing, driver education, motor vehicle law enforcement, alcohol education, or secondary teaching approved by the MD State Dept. of Education or a comparable out of state Dept. of Education.
* Hold a Driver Education Instructor license and must have performed actual classroom instruction for no less than one year; probation certificates not acceptable.
* 2 years of education at an accredited college or university for up to 2 years; 30 semester hours for each year of experience.
