Summary Statement:
Plans, directs and coordinates activities of engineering department to design, integrate, analyze, manufacture, test and certify aircraft components, products, and systems for company products and processes. Manages the engineering staff related to the development of new products and maintaining the existing product lines. Establishes operating policies and procedures. Interprets, executes and recommends modifications to organizational policies.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
Works within established organizational objectives. Accomplishes results through subordinate supervisors or through experienced exempt and nonexempt staff. Performs typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and coaching. Work is reviewed for adequacy in meeting cost, schedule and quality objectives.
Develops and provides leadership to institutionalize the processes of Continuous Quality Improvement in accordance with organizational goals and objectives. Provides guidance to teams on development, performance and productivity issues.
Develops initial design concepts to support new product development, customer needs and requirements. Directs department activities in designing new products, modifying existing designs, improving production techniques, and developing test procedures.
Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.
Coordinates with Manufacturing, Marketing, Contracts and Quality Assurance and other groups to ensure required engineering documentation is established and maintained for each project.
Confers with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.
Creates and maintains budget and schedule tracking metrics and reports progress to Engineering management. Supervises and evaluates the performance of engineering staff. Forecasts department operating costs and directs preparation of budget requests.
Job Qualifications:
Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:
Bachelor Degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering required, Master's degree (MA or MS) preferred, or equivalent in the appropriate discipline and ten (10) or more years related experience and/or training, with at least three (3) years in supervision/management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Communication and Special Skills:
Communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms. Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups. Skills and Work Requirements
Aerospace industry experience required.
Some travel required.
