Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Analytical Chemist.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and hands-on analytical services in support of Laboratory programs using a variety of resources, facilities, and equipment. Provide expert technical leadership and hands-on analytical services in support of APL programs by developing appropriate method protocols employing instrumental and wet chemical analyses. Maintain knowledge of the state of the art in relevant technologies. Interface with customers, document experimental results, prepare reports, and provide instrument expertise to coworkers. Assist in the development of protocols for laboratory operations. Assist in administrative tasks associated with work planning and tracking.
Qualifications
Required:
PhD in Chemistry (or related field) with 3 to 6 years of relevant experience. Expertise with equipment such as GC, FTIR, UV/VIS, HPLC, AAS, and ICP-OES. Demonstrated knowledge of analytical techniques and protocol development. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to mentor colleagues. Ability to multitask and work independently or as part of a team.
Desired:
A broad depth of knowledge in analytical techniques and the appropriate application of modern analytical equipment. Extensive method development experience. Working knowledge of synthetic or biological applications or laser spectroscopy. Experience in writing proposals to procure government sponsored contracts and grants.

Working in chemical laboratories.
