Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an Electronic Design Engineer.
Responsibilities
Senior electronics systems lead engineer for the design and development of space electronic systems, including digital hardware design, simulation and test support of VLSI, ASICs and FPGA-based digital circuits for space, terrestrial and IR&D projects. Space avionics systems conceptual/architectural design and analysis; identifying processor and recorder needs; identifying board- and box-level interfaces. Leading or participation in proposal activities. Mentoring staff to expand the Group depth in this area. Lead electronics systems engineer responsible for all technical, cost and schedule aspects of a defined task, including, but not limited to, flight electronics systems detailed design, analysis, requirements, test planning, procurements, design/development of computer boards, solid-state recorders, interface boards, and associated ground support equipment. Presentations at design reviews. Design and development of functional elements of spacecraft and terrestrial digital and analog electronics using APL CAD/CAE tools including application of VHDL to custom processing circuits. Simulation of the functional and detailed timing performance of these subsystems. Coordination with supporting staff for the integration of these components with other FPGAs and onto circuit boards. Write documentation packages.
Qualifications
Required:
BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering with 7-10 years of experience with flight hardware. Aptitude and interest in the use of CAD/CAE tools for VLSI, ASICs and FPGA circuit design. Must be team oriented, work and communicate well with staff at all levels, be highly motivated, and have high initiative.
Desired:
Peer leadership capabilities highly desirable. Innovative approaches and perspectives in meeting assigned objectives highly desirable.
