Network Security Design Engineer

Job Location: Laurel, Maryland

Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Network Security Design Engineer.

Responsibilities

Provide network security engineering support in the evaluation, development, integration, and testing of information assurance mechanisms for high profile systems (e.g., DHS IdM). Activities present the opportunity for an individual to provide or gain leadership and information security management skills. Plan and carry out system security evaluation and experimentation tasks to support DoD or civil Information System Security (ISS) design/architecture efforts. Support evaluation of the impact of security hardware and software controls on networks by designing and developing testbeds. As a trusted government agent, additional tasks will include evaluating vendor proposals, recommending product selections, and working closely with sponsors to identify and verify equipment certification requirements. Verify and validate high-level and detailed system security design requirements and specs. As a trusted agent in support of government source selection activities, perform technical evaluations of vendor proposals, recommend products. Support system integration and testing of hardware and software.

Qualifications
Required:

BS or MS or equivalent degree in engineering or computer science and 6+ years of professional experience in IA, networking, and communications systems. Demonstrated good organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-organizational team. Demonstrated outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

Desired:

Experience with IA issues related to current Department of Defense communication PORs.

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
