Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Senior System Administrator.

Responsibilities
Description:

Member of systems administration team for 150 system, multi-room, classified AMSEL computing facility.

Duties:
- Monitor Systems to ensure proper operation and respond to user help requests. Establish new user accounts and brief new users.
- Configure and install new PC (required) and Linux (desired) workstations and incorporate into existing networks. Plan and execute software maintenance and upgrade tasks for workstations and network software.
- Participate in planning of facility, computer hardware, and software upgrades (including purchases) in order to pace user needs.
- Maintain and upgrade network hardware and software to ensure the AMSEL computer suite properly interfaces with internal and external networks. These networks include: classified internal LAN, SIPRnet, and classified NES links.
- Ensure facility complies with NISPOM security requirements including: authentication, logging, auditing and intrusion detection. Prepare for and support periodic security inspections. This task involves determining necessary computer and software configurations for compliance with security requirements.

Qualifications
Required:

BS in Computer Science, Computer System Engineering, or related fields; Minimum five years System Administration experience with Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server; some programming language (C, C++, Fortran, Java), system networking and basic technical communication skills.

Desired:

MS in Computer Science, Computer System Engineering or related fields. Proficiency in Windows 2000 Server, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSE Enterprise Linux and Unix; experience with system setup, configuration and performance tuning. Computer hardware installation and reconfiguration expertise.

Special Work Conditions
The job will require access to classified information.

Security
