Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Laboratory Technician.
Responsibilities
Job Description
Technician (mechanical, fluids), with interest and experience in applied fluid dynamics research involving laboratory testing with multiple objectives. Maintain STF's Hydrodynamics Research Laboratory (HRL) and Ocean Instrumentation Calibration Laboratory (OICL). Help plan and carry out fluid dynamics experiments, to include collecting, processing, and analyzing data and documenting results. Opportunity to work with a group of dedicated professionals investigating littoral ocean processes involving small scale phenomena such as internal waves, turbulence, mixing, surface waves, and ship wakes.
Duties
Maintain in improve the Hydrodynamics Research Laboratory, OICL, and other experimental facilities used by the Oceanic, Atmospheric and Remote Sensing Sciences Group. Help plan and execute laboratory experiments to obtain data to test various hypotheses and sensor systems. Process and help analyze laboratory test data. Document all efforts in internal written reports and presentations.
Qualifications
Required
Associates degree, two years of college, or equivalent work experience in a relevant technical area (e.g. mechanical engineering, fluid dynamics). Three to five years experience. Applicant selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Highly-motivated, team-oriented, self-starter desiring to be challenged by working on problems of national importance. Should have the requisite skills and experience to work independently in a laboratory setting.
Desired
Data analysis and signal processing skills. Computer programming, preferably to include experience in MATLAB.
