Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software Engineer.

Responsibilities
Job Description

Participate and/or lead software engineering and development support of processing and analysis systems for sonar and related sensor systems. Work as part of a team comprised of software engineers, system engineers, and analysts to develop data collection, data mining and storage, processing, analysis, and display for system evaluation, improvement, and development. Conduct data analysis in support of system engineering and development efforts.

Duties
Perform software engineering tasking including requirements/design/develop/test using Java, C/C++ in Unix/Linux environment. System implementation. Data analysis. Documentation and presentation of software engineering and data analysis tasks. Software quality assurance activities.

Qualifications
Required

BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years experience in software development. Experience in Java and C/C++ in Unix/Linux environment, particularly in the areas of data mining, storage, and conversion; database interface and development; client/server application; and GUI design and development. Experience with middlewares, SQL, Eclipse, UML, software configuration management tools, Unix/Linux, and gnu tools. Prior experience with software quality assurance. Strong communication and technical leadership skills. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.

Desired
Preference for advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline. Preferred prior experience in sonar systems and system engineering. Experience with mySQL and Matlab. Background or working knowledge in signal processing, detection and estimation techniques, and statistics.

Special Work Conditions
Occasional domestic or foreign travel to field test sites or onboard Navy or research vessels to install/deinstall/support field tests.
