Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Systems Engineer.

Responsibilities

Provide systems engineering leadership and coordination for the conduct of Trident operational systems evaluations and various special technical studies.

Duties include:
1) Apply life-cycle systems engineering expertise to the design and development of new and existing submarine-based weapon systems. Focus areas to include requirements generation, concept/technology development, risk assessments and test & evaluation.
2) Lead/coordinate quick turn-around special studies as directed primarily by the Strategic Systems Program Office (SSP). This would include organizing the study team, ensuring quality of technical products and developing/delivering associated technical briefs to the sponsor.
3) Test, analyze, model and evaluate the performance of complex large-scale systems to include the Trident strategic weapons system and SSGN attack weapons system.
4) Regularly interface with laboratory groups and program managers, external program offices, sponsors and prime contractors regarding SWS performance, special studies and emerging missile systems.
5) Engage SSBA stakeholders at all levels to expand the systems engineering and special studies leadership roles for the group

Qualifications
Required:

Bachelors degree in engineering, physics, applied math, statistics, computer science, or related discipline.
Strong systems engineering background, including active participation in the design, development or evaluation of at least one complex system.
Exceptionally strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Superior verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interface with senior military and civil service personnel on a daily basis.

Desired:
Experience in US Navy fleet operations and Strategic Systems Programs.
Understanding of all major submarine systems, their operation, and employment. DoD acquisition experience.
Ability to provide frequent onsite technical support (up to 2-3 days per week) at sponsor facilities.
Eligible for a Top Secret security clearance.

Special Work Conditions
Occasional travel to sponsor, contractor and Government facilities for meetings and reviews. Occasional support of test events involving extended hours, travel aboard submarines and travel to field sites.

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
