Solaris Systems Administrator (SA) / Information System Security Officer (ISSO)

Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Solaris Systems Administrator (SA) / Information System Security Officer (ISSO) for Solaris 10 system administrator for classified facilities. Ensure systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with security policies as outlined in the System Security Plan (SSP). Oversee daily system operations and ensure security for multiple classified facilities.

Responsibilities
Configure, install, and maintain mostly Solaris 10 and some Windows computer systems in a networked environment. Upload/download data files daily. Install and maintain system hardware and software. Perform audits, backups, security patches and antivirus updates. Maintain SSPs and other documentation.

Lock down mostly Solaris 10 and some Windows computer based upon classified security requirements. Write scripts to facilitate lock down procedures. Provide some Windows systems administration. Create user accounts, reset passwords, configure network resources, and perform annual computer recertifications.

Write or update System Security Plans (SSPs). Work with ISSM to get SSPs approved by sponsors.

Qualifications
Required:

BS degree in Computer Science , Information Technology, Electrical Engineer or equivalent experience.
At least 3 years as a Solaris 10 system administrator.
Extensive knowledge of computer operating systems, hardware, and software.
Excellent teaming, organizational and communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff.
Working familiarity with National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) or equivalent security regulations.

Desired:
Knowledge of classified computer facility operational procedures.
Some Microsoft Windows computer experience.
Some computer programming and/or scripting background.
Understanding of network topography and a familiarity with CISCO networking. Familiarity with Director Of Central Intelligence Directives (DCIDs) and related Intelligence Community requirements and procedures pertaining to Automated Information Systems security, e.g. DCID 6/3.

Special Work Conditions

Will be working in a closed environment; extended hours periodically required; valid state driver's license required; some local and out of area travel required.

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship. Future needs may require the ability to be eligible for DOD clearance requiring background investigation and/or Polygraph examination. Preference would be for current SSBI.
