Position Overview:
Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures to include color Doppler as well as cardiovascular exams to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES JOB DUTIES AND PROJECTS:
1. Verify type of ultrasound examination and prioritize scheduled appointments according to type of test and patient condition.

2. Accurately prepare examination room for designated procedure.

3. Determine and affirm patient's identity by comparing information on the examination requisition to information found on patient's wrist band. Verbally address the patient personally to verify their identity.

4. Explain to patient the procedure prior to performing the examination. Make sure all corresponding forms are signed when necessary.

5. Transport patients from their rooms to department for examinations and back to their rooms immediately following examinations.

6. Ensure all ultrasound images are properly identified and verified 100% of the time with patients name and date. Ensure all patients records and films are properly filed.

7. Process films according to processing criteria determined by procedures and materials used in performing the examination. Prepare all examinations for reading.

8. Accurately log patient exams and complete and process ultrasound charges by the end of daily shift. Maintain department records reports files as required.

9. Accurately position patient and select technical factors to achieve a diagnostic ultrasound examination. Selection of appropriate transducer depending upon depth of field organ to be identified etc. Conduct scanning procedures using standards of equipment manufacturer.

10. Assist physician in such procedures as needle biopsies amniocentesis renal biopsies etc. Scan patient mark patient's body determine angle for puncture assist as necessary maintaining sterile technique as needed for on-call schedule for radiology.

11. Assist with scheduling of patient appointments for ultrasound examinations when conflicts or problems exist. Reschedule test if necessary after informing attending physician and radiologist.

12. Perform equipment calibrations and adjustments.

13. Maintain supply levels in order to never run out of needed supplies. Alert heart center coordinator to equipment malfunctions and maintain equipment used so that it remains in good working condition.

14. Participate in required 24 hour coverage of department by accepting assigned call-back and flexible working schedules as are necessary for patient care.

15. Assist in review and updates of technical protocols and scheduling procedures for studies in ultrasound department.

16. Provide assistance in training additional ultrasound staff as needed.

17. Establish and maintain communications within the Heart Center and other hospital departments.

Education Requirements:
Completion of course in Ultrasound technology or has completed requirements to become registry eligible in RDMS.

Experience Requirements:
Six months to one-year experience in ultrasound preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/ REGISTRATION:
License with ARDMS and licensed with RVT within 1 ½ years of employment.
