Position Overview:
Operate radiology equipment to perform diagnostic examinations to aid physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of their patients.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES JOB DUTIES AND PROJECTS:
1. Verify type of radiology examination and prioritize scheduled appointments according to type of test and patient condition.
2. Accurately prepare examination room for designated procedures in advance.
3. Determine and affirm patient's identity by comparing information on the examination requisition to information found on patients wrist band. Verbally address the patient personally to verify their identity.
4. Explain to patient the procedures prior to performing them. Make sure all corresponding forms are signed when necessary. Maintains patient history file and exam requisition and billing sheets as required.
5. Transport patients from their room to the department for examinations and back to their room immediately following examinations.
6. Process/prepare films according to department procedure for reading by radiologist.
7. Select proper cassette size to achieve optimum image quality for the type of examination to be performed and anatomy being radiographed.
8. Ensure radiographic images are properly identified and verified with patients name and date.
9. Provide and ensure proper use of radiation protection by all hospital personnel patients and self in accordance with hospital and governmental safety standards.
10. Properly measure patients and use technique charts where posted.
11. Possess the ability to learn and perform various examinations within the department and other areas of hospital.
12. Adjust technical factors in proportions to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation.
13. Demonstrate complete working knowledge of all radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment.
14. Perform receptionist/clerical duties etc; scheduling filing and process requisitions.
15. Accept assigned shifts of day evening night and weekend and performs associated duties.
16. Work in an efficient effective and productive manner.
17. Able to recognize a good film.
18. Demonstrates complete knowledge of anatomy and positioning of radiographic procedures-especially headwork.
19. Demonstrates initiative and accepts responsibility.
20. Works independently and uses common sense exercises good judgment and pays attention to detail and uses supervisors as resource.
Education Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited program in radiologic technology.
