Job Summary:
The Director of Distinguished Events will be responsible for contributing to the organization’s annual fundraising effort, including special events, major gift prospecting, solicitation of new donors, cultivation of existing donor relationships, and stewardship. S/he will work closely with staff and volunteers to plan, manage and execute from start to finish at least two events each year. Director will recruit and work with volunteers as well as identify corporate sponsors to successfully implement a special events action plan that focuses on high-end Golf and Gala events in assigned region.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Director will successfully develop and maintain corporate sponsorships within assigned region(s).
Must be skilled in developing relationships with wealthy individuals and company executives.
Director will recruit and train volunteers on events as well and defining expectations.
Cultivate, motivate, and mobilize volunteer committees in planning, recruiting teams in and executing a successful Gala, and/or Golf event.
Director will have proven volunteer experience as well as evident leadership style that facilitates successful event planning and fund-raising.
Background in identifying and securing event sponsors.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Must be computer / data base savvy.
Works in a team environment to effectively represent the Society and its mission in the community.

Reports to the Regional Vice President
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in development/fundraising.
Broad knowledge of fundraising strategies, including special events, and related revenue producing methods.
Gala/Golf events or experience in developing high-end events
Proven leadership ability, utilization of tact, and good judgment.
Exceptional creativity and high level of motivation.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Commitment to the mission and goals of the American Cancer Society.
Project oriented, dynamic, energetic with time management and multi-tasking ability
Exceptional ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, all other constituents
Preferences:
Not for profit experience or events/fund-raising development
Special Work Requirements:
Must be able to certify oneself tobacco free.
Availability to attend evening meetings, travel for centralized training, and participate in all ACS events as required.
