Overview:

ACS seeks a Facilities Project Engineer interested in a rewarding career in a fast-paced, team environment. The individual will work to fulfill the facilities mechanical engineering responsibilities for a variety of laboratory, process and industrial projects; they will also coordinate multiple aspects of construction management projects. Note: This position will be located at our office in Greenville, South Carolina. The position will require training in our corporate office in Madison, Wisconsin for six months to one year. ACS will provide lodging and traveling.

Essential job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work with teams of engineers of varied disciplines to provide excellent client service from the design concept stage through commissioning and job closeout.
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction/design process.
  • Reviews design documents for completeness, verification of design criteria, coordination, budget, and constructability.
  • Work with all aspects of Contract Manager construction management software.
  • Work with project scheduling (Microsoft Project) and project cost estimating (Microsoft Excel) software.
  • Assist in project management of construction projects.
  • Work with clients to establish general construction design criteria for engineering design firms and design/build contractors.
  • Effectively review and coordinate architectural and engineering design documents.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to unexpected demands due to changes in project scope or deadline. Use strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to effectively handle deadline pressures without creating workflow problems for others.
  • Maintain quality subcontractor and vendor relationships.
  • Work on multiple projects in a given time period, depending upon project size and deadline.
  • Prequalify, solicit, analyze, and report on equipment quotations, contractor bids, proposals, and technical submissions.
  • Create scopes of work, contracts, and purchase orders for all General Construction, Mechanical, and Fire Protection scopes of the project.
  • Schedule and manage vendors and sub-contractors, including submittal review process and deliveries, while maintaining quality subcontractor and vendor relationships.
  • Generate RFI responses and coordinate work between trades.
  • Manage construction document updates through the construction bulletin process. This includes directing design team, developing construction bulletin, managing distribution of documents to subcontractors for pricing, receiving and reviewing subcontractor pricing, and executing subcontractor change orders.

Basic requirements include:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering and General Construction to include the design concept stage through commissioning and job closeout.
  • Knowledge and experience with chilled, tower, process and hot water systems, steam, gas, refrigeration, compressed air, fuel, comfort and process air side systems.
  • Experience in electrical engineering projects would be a plus but not required.
  • LEED Certification or willingness to get certified.
  • Ability to work well in project team environment, including: willingness to accept responsibility, team player, takes initiative to improve personal and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with all internal and external levels and groups.
  • Ability to relocate to Madison, Wisconsin for six months to one year.
  • Ability to travel to meetings outside of the office.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and common programs such as Word, Excel, email and Internet research as needed.
  • Proven record of excellent client service.
  • Highly effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills.
