Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Cardiovascular Surgeon , completes patient histories and physical examinations, orders diagnostic studies to form a diagnostic impression, initiates the management of therapies, educates and counsels patients, makes referrals, and issues prescription orders for medications. Functions as First Assist in the operating room. Available to the Cardiovascular Surgeon when she/he is on call. Vein harvesting experience helpful.
Job Requirements:
For Physician Assistant: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program with National Certification and Licensed in the state of Wisconsin or eligible. For Nurse Pracitioner: Masters prepared in Nursing. Licensed as registered nurse in state of Wisconsin. Certification as Nurse Practitioner by American Nursing Association preferred. One-year prior experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with prior surgical experience preferred. Will train right candidate in surgery. Clinical patient care, use of medical/ surgical equipment and instruments, surgical technique, and organizational policy and procedure. Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Clear and concise verbal and written communication. Ability to obtain appropriate practice privileges at area hospitals.
