In addition, AFLs Services Division manufactures, engineers, and installs fiber optic products and equipment to enable delivery of high-speed voice, video, and data services.

POSITION: OSP ENGINEER

AFL Network Services is seeking experienced OSP Engineers for immediate contract work on projects nationwide.  Candidates for these positions can be located anywhere in the continental US and can work from home.

 Responsibilities:

The OSP Engineer performs all aspects of OSP engineering for copper and fiber projects and will be heavily involved in activities including the following:

  • Development of OSP planning/design documentation, plans and specification assembly
  • Special drawings/plant records, bid processes, construction management documentation, and any other duties to ensure projects are completed successfully.

The OSP will meet or exceed business unit goals while maintaining quality standards, controlling expenses, and following company and business unit directives and practices.

The successful candidate must meet a majority of the knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience requirements outlined below.
  • Design, provision, document, and direct Outside Plant Copper and Fiber Optic Cable (UG, Aerial, Buried) and manhole and conduit design.
  • Support the design and engineering process by planning and preparing drawings for construction of new, and removal or rearrangement of existing fiber optic and/or copper cables, and conduits.
  • Completes designs in accordance to customer specifications and guidelines
  • Works with outside agencies to obtain right of way approvals and coordinate projects with other utilities.
  • Acquiring permits and or private easements
  • Able to read and understand highway/road prints, be able to identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, select routing of lines and equipment required for work projects.
  • Ensures the integrity of the customer access network is maintained and provides support for the deployment of access technologies.
  • May be required to provide on-site construction inspection to ensure design specifications are met.
  • Create work orders.
  • Create make ready analysis, pole surveys, QC prints, preparation of prints and assist in preparing bid documentation.
  • Delegates and assures that all crossing agreement requests are allocated and response acquired. This will include Railway, Highway, pipeline, environmental, heritage, and other crossings as required.
  • Update customer records.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

Skills/Requirements

REQUIREMENTS & EXPERIENCE
 
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, a technical discipline, or equivalent applicable experience.
  • Minimum 3 years OSP Engineering experience.
  • Must have either ARES, OSP-FM experience.
  • Need strong Auto-Cad experience.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications network design principals and processes.
