Job Description

  • Providing work direction to the staff with clear responsibility for the coordination of resources to efficiently support procedures, day-to-day operations and the smooth flow of patients through the department
  • Performing human resource responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, salary adjustments, resolution of employee concerns, disciplinary counseling, terminations, and employee morale
  • Promoting an environment conducive to the delivery of quality patient care. Advocating for rights of patients and staff. Evaluating the quality of patient care provided in the specialty area through collaboration with unit and organization resource people
  • Assuring policies and procedures are in compliance with those of the Medical Center, the Nursing Department, and regulatory agencies. Serving as a clinical resource contact for patients, families, nursing staff, other health care members and external agencies
  • Promoting communication among patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members. Coordinating the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator. Developing and maintaining effective intra- and inter-departmental relationships
  • In collaboration with the department manager, conducting ongoing process improvement. Providing input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental issues in preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets
  • Identifying clinical and professional educational needs to promote staff development. Assisting staff to identify personal learning needs. In collaboration with departmental and organizational staff, developing department orientation and continuing education programs for all staff. Teaching and guiding staff. Assisting with various teaching programs

General Qualifications
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) granted by the State of Wisconsin.
  • Minimum two (2) years nursing experience in an inpatient nursing unit reflecting advanced clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an inpatient nursing unit environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills necessary.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.

Desired Qualifications
  • Minimum five years of nursing experience in an ICU setting.
