Responsibilities:
  • Meets with patients and family members to discuss financial arrangements for health care services provided by the medical centers. Responsible for counseling patients and families and facilitating the resolution of patient billing issues making mutually satisfactory payment arrangements.
  • Problem-solves with all parties as necessary to help address insurance coverage gaps via alternative funding options. Provides information regarding internal and external assistance programs and assists with the process.
  • Maintains detailed records related to actions taken on accounts and payment arrangements. Reviews, monitors, and updates patient admissions daily to ensure that all cases have sufficient financial information including authorizations, insurance information, guarantor data, physician, and preferred providers.
  • Works cooperatively with other departments, physicians, third party payers, government officials, patients and their families with an emphasis on identifying any potential patient out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Acts as a liaison between physicians and the Medical Center administration in relation to special admission payment arrangements. Posts adjustments as related to special agreements.
  • Provides guidance and serves as a resource person for Admitting, Business Office, and Medical Center personnel.

Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Requires 2 years of experience in medical billing, cash, and insurance follow-up procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting, credit and collection laws and fundamentals, and current insurance and government financial assistance programs and regulations required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the admitting function, HMO procedures, and the insurance verification process.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) or similar products is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computerized patient accounting systems.
  • Strong analytic, organization, communication (written and verbal), and human relations skills.
  • Must possess the ability to deal effectively with a variety of people under stressful circumstances.
  • Must be available to travel between sites as needed.

Scheduled Hours: Weekdays: Monday thru Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm Position will float to various hospitals in the North Region to include Aurora Baycare, Sheboygan and Two Rivers Manitowoc
