Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Tech

Job Location: Boulder, CO

Job Type: Per-diem

Department: Laboratory

Shift: Days - 8 hour shifts

Hours: all shifts

Position Summary
Coordinates the technical component of the clinical laboratory, pathology laboratory, or blood bank. Ensure operational excellence is maintained and consistent with meeting the needs and expectations of the laboratory’s many customers.

Job Qualifications

Education or Formal Training
1. Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
2. National certification (ASCP or equivalent) within one year of hire.

Special Qualifications (licensure, registration, etc.)
1. Specialist certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

1. Good written and verbal communication skills.
2. Good technical knowledge in the respective section.
a) Blood Bank – current working knowledge of immunohematology, blood group serology, practical blood transfusions and all appropriate regulations, including AABB, FDA, CAP required.
b) Chemistry – current working knowledge of chemistry, special chemistry, toxicology, and immunology required.
c) Hematology – current working knowledge of hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis required.
d) Microbiology – current working knowledge of principles and procedures pertaining to the microbiology disciplines of bacteriology, mycology, virology, immunology, and mycobacteriology required.
e) Histology – current working knowledge of routine histologic procedures, special stains, and immunohisto chemistry.
f) Computer – current working knowledge of LIS, HIS, and any other lab specific hardware not maintained by IS.
g) Cytology-current working knowledge of principles and procedures pertaining to gynecological, non-gynecological and monolayer cytology.

Experience
1. Three years experience in the clinical/pathology laboratory.
2. Basic understanding of LIS.

Working Environment/Physical Activities

1. Physical working environment may include, but not be limited to, any of the following hazards: chemical, electronic, mechanical, biowaste, explosive, radiation, etc.
2. Environmental conditions may include, but not be limited to, variations in temperature, noise, odors, etc.
3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to constantly stand and walk. The employee frequently is required to stoop, crouch and twist. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, squat, and sit.
4. Functional physical demands include manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and reaching. The following senses will be needed for essential duties of the job: speech, vision, hearing, smell and touch.
