Department:Medical Records Schedule: Shift:Days - 8 hour shifts Hours:M-F 8:00 to 4:30, with some negotiation. Some weekend wo Salary Range:$16.00 - Negotiable Contact Information: Job Details:- Experience is required
Position Summary Code and abstract inpatient and/or outpatient records using ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems in compliance with federal, state, and various insurance company regulations. Includes coding same-day surgery, Labs, Imaging, EDs, and other ancillary departments. Position may be in-house or remote (telecommuting). Job Qualifications Education or Formal Training 1. Associate degree in Health Information Management preferred, or 2. Bachelor degree in Health Information Management preferred, or 3. Sufficient experience to qualify for CCS credential or other AHIMA or AAPC-approved coding credential preferred. Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.) Accredited by the American Health Information Management Association (RHIT, RHIA or CCS) or other AHIMA or AAPC-approved coding credential preferred Knowledge, Skill and Ability 1. Through knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology, and medical terminology 2. Extensive training and knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions and coding principals 3. Excellent communication skills 4. Keyboard proficiency 5. Encoder knowledge 6. DRGs/APCs/modifiers Experience 1. At least two years experience in coding and abstracting in an acute care facility preferred 2. If new graduate, a cumulative average of 3.0 a requirement Materials and Equipment Directly Used 1. Quadramed ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 software 2. Variety of Medical Reference Books 3. Usual office supplies Working Environment/Physical Activities 1. Office environment; remote coders must sign all designated Telecommuting Agreements 2. Employee should be able to sit for long periods of time and do close computer screen reading 3. Ability to read a variety of documents and medical records 4. Ability to lift 25 pounds (patient records)
