Location:Rochester, MN The Model Maker constructs precision prototype parts and models from raw stock materials. Essential Functions and Competencies Takes work direction from the Lead Tool & Model Maker and/or work with Senior Tool & Model Makers and engineering to gain a solid knowledge base of tool room operations. Interfaces on a regular basis with engineering personnel including questions on the design as well as providing input on design enhancements to ensure better overall fabrication ability Provides support to manufacturing as requested for fixture modifications and design. Demonstrates effective and safe use of hand tools, mills, lathes, CNC, saws, drills, surface grinder, metal tempering, welding, etc. Provides design feasibility of machined, molded, or cast parts. Demonstrates accuracy and attention to detail to minimize scrap Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills. Effective multi-task skills and ability to take on additional responsibilities as required. Effective organization and prioritization skills. Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism when representing the company. Supports a 24/7 global business operation as required. Able to work overtime when needed. Works with diverse groups. Participates in a continuous improvement activity. Qualifications / Education / Experience Works on assignments that require considerable judgment and initiative. Maintains a minimal stock of raw materials for quick turn parts. Provides guidance and mentors less experience tool and model makers. Assists in quoting activities for future business. Builds mechanical sub-assemblies as requested to ensure design accuracy.
5+ year experience in complex machining design operations. Will include CNC programming.
