Senior Hardware Engineer (RF)

Job Location: New Brighton, MN

Job Type: Full-Time

Summary:
  • Designs and documents electronic hardware for customer products and related electronics, to meet both the customers’ requirements and Benchmark manufacturing requirements.
  • Provides assistance and technical leadership to Mechanical Design, PCB Design, Functional Test, and In-Circuit Test for product, test, and tooling development.
  • Performs evaluation of quality measurements on electronic designs in accordance with a verification plan • Creates documentation related to an electronic design project
  • Contacts and works with hardware, software, and equipment vendors
  • Develops and follows project plan and reports project status to leadership and/or customer
  • Provides project level leadership and organization as required for multiple concurrent projects, mentoring, and training for engineers
  • Develops project proposals and associated cost estimates
  • Performs portions of and leads Design For Excellence (DFX) efforts and creates necessary documentation
  • Develops an understanding of DFX philosophy and promotes with customers.
  • Communicates with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues
  • Communicates technical challenges and implements solutions
  • Drives design/development related business discussions on Benchmark customer team(s)
  • Works with customers to understand customer requirements regarding a product design
  • Works with Benchmark manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the production environment
  • Works with Sustaining Engineering (product, process, test and quality) to develop products that leverage Benchmarks manufacturing and test processes.
  • Develops and deploys processes and systems within the workgroup
  • Participates in identification and development of advanced/new technologies
  • Provides research and development for new design methods and tools
Skills Required:
  • Will be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems to creatively and efficiently design products and assemblies based on various applications and technologies.
  • Will be able to make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques
  • Will demonstrate effective use of lab test equipment
  • Will demonstrate knowledge of schematic capture tools, may include but not limited to, Cadence OrCad, Cadence Concept, Mentor Design Architect, Mentor Design Capture, Mentor DX Designer, Veribest, Innoveda, etc.
  • Will demonstrate analytical skills and advanced troubleshooting of electronic circuits
  • Will demonstrate an intermediate understanding of software programming techniques.
  • Will demonstrate strong problem solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions
  • Will demonstrate effective presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal with internal and external customers
  • Will demonstrate ability to assemble and present technical presentations in support of technology exchange
  • Will demonstrate effective interpersonal skills
  • Will demonstrate confidentiality
  • Will demonstrate day to day self-directed project activity organization in accordance with hardware development procedures
  • Will demonstrate the ability to work within the hardware development and project teams.
  • Will demonstrate detailed knowledge of various advanced technologies, (examples: Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Design, Single Board Computer/peripheral design considerations, power supply design, Radio Frequency (RF) design, etc.)
  • Will demonstrate regular, consistent attendance, and will support an all shift production environment
  • Will be able to travel up to 10% - 20% of the time to include day and/or overnight travel

Experience Required:
  • Must have 5+ years experience in the electronics manufacturing industry developing electronic hardware and software.
  • Must have intermediate knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet, MS Power Point applications.
  • Must have intermediate level knowledge of schematic capture software and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout software. Digital or analog simulation software experience preferred.
Education Required:
  • Must have a four year Engineering degree, a two year technical degree with 13+ years experience in related field or an equivalent education.
