Scope and Responsibilities

To provide efficient and timely technical assistance to assigned customers in matters relating to their packaging equipment operations.

Tech Service Representative II: Proficient at the following duties, and requires only occasional management support and supervision to be proficient.

• Services customer equipment to maintain optimum performance of equipment, packaging films and shrink bag materials.
• Identifies machinery and packaging film/shrink bag problems, and ensures that they are properly communicated to the Technical Service Manager, customers, sales personnel and appropriate staff representatives; i.e. Marketing, R&D, Customer Service, etc. Places special emphasis on problems relating to packaging equipment and operational safety.
• Provides training assistance on proper operation and maintenance of equipment to customer personnel.
• Maintains accurate and timely reports on work activities and time utilization. Notifies customer management, Technical Service Manager, Regional Sales Manager and RE&D of any machine related operational safety related infractions which could affect the safety of the packaging line operators and/or the product.
• Performs and completes package/shrink bag and machine audits on packaging machines (rollstock and rotary).
• Participates with R&D, Marketing and Sales in support of field trials of new packaging materials.
• Establishes and maintains effective relations with customers, sales personnel and internal Curwood staff personnel.
• Completes Material Return Authorization forms as required and in consultation with the account sales and customer service representatives.
• Assists in the installation and start-up of all packaging equipment manufactured and sold by Curwood.
• Provides input, as requested, into the design, installation and start-up of packaging equipment manufactured by outside suppliers or RE & D.
• Works on special projects as assigned by the Technical Service Manager.
• Provides weekly schedule of business activities to Technical Service Manager and Regional Sales Manager for planning purposes.
• Submits weekly expense reports within guidelines and reviews any variations with the Technical Service Manager.

Knowledge & Sources

• Recent experience working with packaging films both in troubleshooting equipment and setting up film trials.
• Strong preference for direct expereince working with packaging equipment and film in the food and liquid markets.
• Strong technical and interpersonal skills.
• Possesses proprietary knowledge of Curwood manufacturing processes and technical information relating to packaging films / shrink bag structures and related packaging equipment.
• Willingness to work long and unusual hours, including weekends, in emergency situations and travel an average of two to four days per week.
• 60/75% travel may be required
• Valid driver`s license.
• Holds relevant travel documentation for airline travel which may include a passport and / or work visa.

Sources/The above skills may be acquired from:

• A Technical Associate degree or work equivalent.
• 3-5 years of successful technical service experience to packaging equipment and/or flexible materials.

• Direct experience troubleshooting and installing packaging equipment, ideally within the liquid and food packaging area
• Strong electro-mechnical skills
• Knowledge of flexible films is vital
• Strong diplomacy skills are needed
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
• Flexible to travel on short notice
• Time-management skills
• Strong communication skills are needed
