Purpose of Position
The Fair Manager plans, organizes, coordinates and administers the County Fair. The Manager consults with the Board members in the development of goals, objectives and policies intended to advance the efficient operation of the Fair. The Manager enhances and supports Board Committee activity with due regard for deadlines for accomplishment of Committee responsibilities.
Supervision
The Fair Manager is directly accountable to the Executive Board of the Brown County Fair. The Manager sets the agenda for planning courses of action to achieve defined goals, objectives and policies. All questions are referred to the Executive Board.
Essential Functions of Fair Manager
-Work with the Brown County Fair Board of Directors, 4H and FFA leaders, superintendents and other user groups in planning and supervising County Fair and other special events and promotions. Participate in establishing and monitoring budgets, goals and objectives for the operation of the County Fair.
-Attend Board meetings and facilitate Board Committees in accomplishing committee tasks. Attend Committee meetings as required, but is not a member of any committee and does not possess voting rights.
-Responsible for all logistics associated with the County Fair, including planning, layout, scheduling and coordinating events, and negotiation with food vendors and entertainment groups.
-Prepare and present annual budget to the Executive Committee. Review fiscal expenditures.
- As authorized by the Fair Executive Committee to expend funds as appropriate, maintaining fiscal accountability.
-Seek non-traditional revenue sources such as donations and grants.
-Personally, or through others, make presentations to a wide variety of civic or other groups to promote the Brown County Fair, and present a favorable and positive image of the fair. Promote and encourage participation of groups and others to attend the fair.
-Promote and advocate the Fair through a variety of media. Establish and coordinate media coverage for all events effectively representing the Fair within the community.
-Maintain a liaison with a wide variety of civic, town, city, county and state agencies, groups and officials.
-Field all complaints and any special problems relevant to the Fair and report them to the Board. Shall act as the official spokesperson for the Board in times of problems and issues.
-Prepare reports and submit them to the Board or Executive Committee.
-Expected to work at least 12-15 hours per week with increased hours during the month prior to, the month of and the month following the Fair.
-Perform all other duties and functions that are necessary or incidental to the performance of his/her position.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed
-Knowledge of and ability to develop and maintain efficient and effective office practices and procedures.
-Ability to make decisions in accordance with general policy statements, usually relying on precedent established. Ability to independently initiate action as needed.
-Ability to recognize exceptions to general principles and to know when to seek out higher-level decisions.
-Ability to hire, train and direct the work of other employees.
-Knowledge of computer functions and operation. Ability to proficiently perform data entry and word-processing functions.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality as it relates to the work performed.
-Ability to compile, analyze, record and assemble data and information in a meaningful and effective manner.
-Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
-Ability to maintain and establish working relationships with staff, directors and volunteers.
-Ability to multi-task and meet multiple demands.
-Ability to reach out to businesses and industry to secure funding.
Compensation:
Starting annual salary of $15,000. No other benefits are included.
