This position supervises and coordinates the activities of production employees. Responsibilities include maintaining product and employee safety, productivity, yield, quality, standard operating procedures (SOPs), sanitation standards, and good manufacturing practices (GMPs).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a First-Line Production Supervisor position in Plant Operations. Under limited supervision, the incumbent supervises and directs employees assigned to production. In addition, the incumbent participates in the production planning and scheduling process. Based on the area assigned, the incumbent is held accountable for meeting the requirements of quality, productivity, standard costs, safety, and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP).

Achieves safety objectives. (Example: Meets the company’s Lost Time/OSHA Recordable injury rate goals by teaching and enforcing safe work habits, conducting weekly safety meetings, and participating in departmental safety audits).25%

Supervises a work group to assure the production of products meets daily production schedules and assures the ordering of raw materials and/or supplies required for production scheduling in his/her assigned area. (Example: Organizes dept. labor requirements, provides required equipment/process training, and ensures employees work at a safe and proper work pace).15%

Achieve objectives regarding records, reports, and other administrative responsibilities. (Example: The incumbent will be responsible for all records being complete including payroll, HACCP documentation, various production reports, properly documenting personnel issues, etc. The incumbent will handle the time and attendance recording for his/her department on a daily basis, and resolve all issues out of the normal schedule. The incumbent will ensure all records are completed in full, and in a timely basis, as to the needs of the operation).15%

Assures the production of products/services meets quality objectives and achieves sanitation and housekeeping objectives. (Example: Ensures all employees follow GMP and RTE practices and performs operational production checks according to QA procedures to ensure products are produced within QA specifications. The incumbent will make necessary decisions to ensure the quality of the product is not compromised).15%

Achieves labor efficiency and all cost containment efforts relating to utilization of chemicals, packaging materials, etc. in order to maintain or reduce departmental costs. (Example: Ensures products are produced using labor standards regarding crew size and line speed requirements. The incumbent ensures that the personnel are on the line at their scheduled times at the beginning of the day and after each break. The incumbent will communicate with his/her supervisor as to any issues with proper staffing, so as to properly share personnel with other departments as operations dictate).15%

Achieves standard yield objectives. (Example: Ensures products are produced according to cost accounting yield standards utilizing such measurements as slices/LB, LBS/Case, etc).15%

Estimate time on the floor – 85%

Will be required to work with and understand the operation of equipment and train employees. Will be required to work with and develop equipment and ideas deemed to be confidential information and/or trade secrets owned by the company. This person will be required to protect the company's rights in and ownership of those trade secrets and confidential information

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Applicants with a high school diploma, or equivalent, and 5-7 years supervisor experience in the food or meat processing industry or completion of the Burke supervisor training program is required.

· A college degree in Food Science, Meat Science, Animal Science, or Industrial Technology is desirable.

· The qualified individual will have demonstrated strong leadership traits, will be able to communicate effectively

· Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills.

· Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
