Basic Function:
Support Carilion`s hallmarks of service excellence and quality for all job responsibilities.
Responsible for coding diagnoses and procedures of Ambulatory Surgery or Emergency Department records using ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems. May assist with Outpatient Diagnostic Coding as needed. Consults with physicians to improve or clarify medical record documentation for complete, accurate and compliant coding. Identifies missing or incorrect charges during the coding process and ensures reconciliation of the errors through consultation with appropriate clinical areas and/or physicians. Ambulatory Surgery volume across the system is approximately 45,000 - 50,000 annually and ED Volume is approximately 45,000 to 50,000 visits per year.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education:
High School education required: college degree preferred. Medical Terminology and Physiology & Anatomy required.
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in Facility ED or AMB Surgery coding. Basic computer skills required.
Licensure/Certification:
CPC Required. Coding certification required.
