CASA Volunteer Advocate

Job Location: Bentonville, AR

Purpose of Position:
A CASA is a volunteer appointed by the Courts to ensure that the needs of a child who may have been neglected or abused are met. In order to do this, the CASA must investigate the facts of the case, recommend a course of action to the court, facilitate the resolution of the presenting problems, and monitor progress toward established goals.

Responsibilities of the Position
  • Interview all parties, clients, and professionals, as well as the child/children involved in the assigned cases.
  • Maintain record of all findings and turn in necessary paperwork by date requested.
  • Confer with Volunteer Coordinator on a regular basis at a minimum of once a month.
  • Attend all staffings concerning the child/children
  • Discuss court reports with Volunteer Coordinator prior to preparing report.
  • Appear in court as to the child's best interest
  • Monitor the case to ensure court orders are being carried out, and that services to the child are being furnished and placement is appropriate.
  • Investigate institutions and foster homes where children may be placed.
  • If child/children is freed for adoption, work unceasingly to attain this goal as soon as possible.
  • Work for permanency for the child, whether that permanency is to be returned to that child's original home or freed for adoption.

Requirements of the position
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Pass a NCIC background check
  • Complete application for position
  • If working, secure permission or make arrangements in advance of pre-service training for time off to attend periodic hearings.
  • Make appointment and come to the office for an interview prior to pre-service training.
  • Complete pre-service training course.
  • Appear in court to be sworn in as an advocate.
  • Monitor court proceedings and appear at all hearings
  • Complete 12 hours of in-service training a year.
  • Sign Statement of Confidentiality.
  • Sign Statement of Commitment to serve a minimum of one year.
  • Sign form stating that you have received a copy of the CASA Advocate policy and procedure manual.

Qualifications of this position
  • Willingness to work within the guidelines, policies and standards of CASA.
  • Good human relation skills and the ability to be objective.
  • Must have conviction of the importance of providing for the best interests of children at risk.
  • Must have time, interest and energy to do the job.
  • Must have access to transportation
