EPD (Electrical Power Distribution) Instructor

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for increasing student learning through developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college activities. Competencies and tasks of the position will be consistent with the educational principles of the college that focus on meeting the learning needs of students.
Responsibilities/Expectations/Accountability/Duties:
- Provide instruction in the two-semester Electrical Power Distribution program. See program information at http://www.cvtc.edu/pages/423.asp
- Provide instruction in electrical power distribution systems, including electrical theory, line construction, tools and apparatus use.
- Develop, revise and implement curriculum
- Plan for instruction
- Facilitate student learning and deliver instruction
- Manage the classroom or learning site effectively
- Maintain labs when appropriate
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds
- Assist with recruitment of students
- Assess student learning, develop and maintain personal education plans with students and advise students
- Assist with course/program evaluation and continuous improvement
- Support and assist with the development of flexible instructional delivery systems, including on-line instruction
- Communicate and maintain positive relations with internal and external CVTC community
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and participate on instructional and college-wide teams
- Pursue on-going professional development
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to demonstrate pole and tower climbing/work techniques required.
- Ability to operate aerial bucket trucks and digger/derrick trucks required.
- Ability to emphasize and demonstrate appropriate safety concepts
- Working knowledge of Window-based computer systems preferred.
- Ability to plan, organize, instruct and facilitate educational courses of quality.
- Flexibility in schedule, including availability for day, evening, weekend or summer assignments at various locations as appropriate.
- Ability to utilize technology which supports learning and teaching.
- Ability to work with students in both one on one and group instruction situations.
- Employment with CVTC is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s).
- Employment for this position is contingent upon a negative drug test.
Necessary Training and Experience:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree and two years (4,000 hours) of related work experience
- Without Bachelor’s degree, seven years (14,000 hours) of related work experience

- This position requires that a Bachelor’s degree in a related field be obtained within five years from date of employment (if not already obtained).
- Class A Commercial Drivers License required.
PREFERRED:
- Post-secondary teaching experience preferred, not required.
Position Details
Expected Start Date: August 2008
Position Status: Full-time, faculty union position
Location: Transportation Center, West Campus, Eau Claire (with travel to other CVTC campuses anticipated periodically)
Work Hours: Salaried position – hours will vary each semester. Flexibility in schedule, including availability for day, evening, weekend or summer assignments at various locations as appropriate.
Salary: Salary to be paid for this position will be commensurate with academic training and educational experience. The 2007-2008 academic-year salary schedule for a 34-week contract ranges from $43,376 with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) to $75,330 with a Doctorate/Educational Specialist degree. Maximum placement for new instructors is $62,953 (with a Doctorate/Educational Specialist degree). This position represents a 34-week contract. The 2008-2009 academic-year salary schedule has not yet been determined.

Union Status: This position is represented by the Teachers’ Union; therefore, the incumbent of this position will pay Union dues. The annual Union dues will be approximately $779.95 which will be taken over 19 installments during the school year.
