Welding Instructor FT Limited-term

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for increasing student learning through developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality, assessing student learning, advising students, and participating in college activities. Competencies and tasks of the position will be consistent with the educational principles of the college that focus on meeting the learning needs of students.
Responsibilities/Expectations/Accountability/Duties:
- Provide welding and related instruction to CVTC students.
- Develop, revise and implement curriculum
- Plan for instruction
- Facilitate student learning and deliver instruction
- Manage the classroom or learning site effectively and professionally
- Setup and maintain labs as needed when appropriate
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds
- Assist with recruitment of students
- Develop and maintain personal education plans with students and advise students
- Assess student learning, assign and maintain grades
- Assist with course/program evaluation and continuous improvement
- Support and assist with the development of flexible instructional delivery systems, including on-line instruction
- Communicate and maintain positive relations with internal and external CVTC community, educational partners and business/industry Work collaboratively with colleagues and participate on instructional and college-wide teams
- Pursue on-going professional development
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Basic welding skills must meet or exceed industry standards in oxyacetylene welding and cutting, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW, stick welding), gas metal arc welding (GMAW, MIG, Spray and Pulse Transfer), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW, TIG) and plasma arc cutting.
- Knowledge of fabrication techniques and applications.
- Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and related applications.
- Knowledge and skills in robotic welding, CNC flame/plasma cutting, pipe welding and welding certification
- Knowledge of metallurgy
- Ability to plan, organize, instruct and facilitate educational courses of quality.
- Flexibility in schedule, including availability for day, evening, weekend or summer assignments at various locations as appropriate.
- Ability to utilize technology which supports learning and teaching.
- Ability to work with students in both one on one and group instruction situations.
- Employment with CVTC is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s).
Necessary Training and Experience:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree and two years (4,000 hours) of related work experience Without Bachelor’s degree, seven years (14,000 hours) of related work experience Appropriate and related work experience is described at this WTCS website: http://systemattic.wtcsystem.org/Certification/occexp/442-31-1.doc Work experience must represent a variety of activities as represented in the curriculum of the program
Training and Experience:
PREFERRED:
- Significant experience with production MIG welding preferred.
- Past teaching/training experience preferred, not required.

Location:
CVTC Neillsville Center and Neillsville High School, Wisconsin (with travel to other CVTC campuses anticipated periodically)
Work Hours: Salaried position – hours will vary each semester. Flexibility in schedule, including availability for day, evening, weekend or summer assignments at various locations as appropriate. This position is expected to teach predominantly afternoon and evening courses.
Salary:
Salary to be paid for this position will be commensurate with academic training and educational experience. The 2007-2008 academic-year salary schedule for a 34-week contract ranges from $43,376 with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) to $75,330 with a Doctorate/Educational Specialist degree. Maximum placement for new instructors with a 34-week contract is $62,953. This position represents a 34-week contract. The 2008-2009 academic-year salary schedule has not yet been determined.

Union Status:
This position is represented by the Teachers’ Union; therefore, the incumbent of this position will pay Union dues. The annual Union dues will be approximately $779.95 which will be taken over 19 installments during the school year.
