Financial Accountant

Job Location: Eau Claire, WI

Department: Business Education Center, Clairemont Campus

Position Summary:
This is a leadership position on the Business Team which reports directly to the Director of Finance. It is responsible for the daily financial operations which include cash management, accounts receivable management and reporting requirements.

Accountability
  • Performs all banking functions.
  • Maintains cash flow to ensure sufficient cash on hand for daily operations.
  • Manages all College investments.
  • Performs an internal audit of the monthly transactions.
  • Monitors the compilation and collection of the tax levy assessed to each municipality in the district.
  • Manages the Billing and Accounts Receivable functions and assists the staff in setting goals and priorities.
  • Oversees the FACTS payment plan.
  • Works directly with students on Title IV repayment and past due fee repayments.
  • Serves as a member of cross functional teams in areas related to billing, collecting and policy.
  • Serves as co-chair of the Banner Users Committee (BUC).
  • Monitor department systems and processes.
  • Supervise work study or other college employees as necessary
  • Maintain confidentiality.
Responsibility:
  • Partners with the Director of Finance to coordinate the annual audit and prepare the financial statements.
  • Partners with the Director of Finance to prepare, edit and submit the annual “Uniform Financial Fund Accounting System” (UFFAS) reporting to the WTCS.
  • Monitors all transactions entered in the general ledger and reconciles accounts as necessary.
  • Maintains debt schedules and processes debt payments as required.
  • Prepares financial and statistical reports/surveys.
  • Acts as a resource person to ensure compliance with accounting, state and federal regulations.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements software updates/enhancements.
  • Serves as the primary staff trainer to insure that each person knows what their task responsibilities are and that process documentation is in place.
  • Serves as a Banner Power User for the finance module.
  • Partners with the Director of Finance to provide guidance and direction to Business Office Staff and situational interpretation of departmental procedures and guidelines.
  • Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational background.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of quality processes and the concepts of continuous improvement.
* Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as applicable to a governmental environment.
* Ability to analyze accounting data and to prioritize multiple work assignments.
* Knowledge and experience with billing, reconciliation and collections of accounts receivable.
* Expertise with Microsoft Excel and experience with other MS Office applications.
* Ability to solve problems effectively to help delinquent account holders resolve payment issues.
* College faculty, staff, and students; business representatives; and the general public.
* Ability to facilitate effective management meetings.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently toward department goals. Employment with CVTC is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s).

Necessary Training and Experience:
Required:
* Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business/finance.
* A minimum of four years experience in a challenging accounting environment including supervision of accounting staff.
* Experience working with an integrated relational database.
* Cash management experience.
* In evaluating candidates for this position, the College may consider a combination of education, training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.

Preferred:
* CPA
* Sungard Banner or Peoplesoft experience in a higher education setting.

Location:
This position is located at the Business Education Center, Clairemont Campus in Eau Claire and provides services to all our campuses throughout the eleven county district.

Work Hours:
Salaried position (Work hours expected to be 8:00 a.m. -4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday)

Salary:
The salary range for this position is $43,000 - $62,500 (level 5). This represents a 48-week contract spread over a 52-week fiscal year.
