Sr. Network Engineer
Job Location: Eau Claire, WI

Position Profile:
Under the supervision of the Technical Director, the Sr. Network Engineer has primary responsibility for the support of network related devices. Support includes Cisco routers, switches, core network, network security, intrusion detection/prevention, network monitoring, WAN and LAN support.

Areas of Accountability:
- Work with Executive Cabinet members to create an effective long-term network connectivity strategy that meets CVTC’s learning objects. Lead projects and initiatives related to network restructuring and re-configuration .
- Work with CVTC security team to ensure security plan is completed.
- Ensure connectivity to remote campuses as well as stable LAN environment.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for ensuring a correct router/switch configuration.
- Responsible for designing security policies/procedures for secure networking with end devices.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot connectivity issues.
- Ensure adequate redundancy in network infrastructure.
- Design college policies and procedures around proper network access and security measures.
- Maintain knowledge on current federal, state and local laws governing network computing.
- Monitor network performance.
- May direct activities of work-study students.
- Configure Cisco ASA devices, routers, switches, wireless controllers and LWAPP for wireless network, configure clean access for both wireless and wired network.
- Monitoring Cisco clean access and Cisco MARS
- Excellent decision and problem solving skills
- Discretion to determine best course of action for outages and helpdesk tasks
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of computer networking. Must be knowledgeable with IP addressing, VLAN’s, router and switch cabling/configuration Knowledge of Layer 3 routing and switches.
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Understanding of network hardware and protocols required for proper secure network authentication and access.
- Understanding of Wireless setup and configuration. Cisco Clean Access
- Understanding of Intrusion detection and prevention technologies and tools.
Training and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field REQUIRED.
- 7+ years of experience with Cisco network configuration.
- Experience with Network monitoring applications.
- Cisco knowledge required.
- CCNA certification is a plus.
- CISSP certification is a plus.
Location:
This position is located at the Chippewa Valley Technical College, Business Education Center, Clairemont Campus in Eau Claire and provides services to all CVTC campuses throughout the eleven county district.
Details:
This position is through Sungard Higher Education the person hired into this position will be employed through Sungard and contracted to work with Chippewa Valley Technical College.
