Position Summary:
Under the direction of the MTEC Educational Director, responsible for operating and supporting the CVTC/NanoRite Micro and Nano Fabrication facilities. (Grant Funded Position)
Responsibilities/Expectations/Accountability/Duties:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Operate clean room equipment for MEMS, Wafer Processing, and NanoBio processing in support of NanoRite tenants, clients, CVTC program students, faculty, and partners
- Perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance and repairs to instrument systems and components of clean room laboratory equipment, and production equipment
- Monitor and coordinate operation of the micro and nano fabrication labs with Facilities Management for central utilities and building management systems. Eg: heating/cooling, security…
- Coordinate equipment installation and operational readiness
- Prepare lab and clean room facilities for Nano Science program activities
- Provide equipment operation training and qualification assessment for tenants, students, and clients
- Maintain clean room and micro fabrication facilities including qualification and use logs
- Create and document clean room and clean room equipment policies and procedures
- Assist instructors in developing and preparing curriculum support materials for classes
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical assemblies of nano and micro fabrication equipment
- Provide input and suggestions with respect to product design elements affecting ease of assembly, manufacturability, serviceability, etc.
- Maintain documentation of process and repair procedures
- The technician will be required to trouble shoot problems in the event of instrument failure and be able to recommend parts needed for the effective repair. Technician will assist as needed in performing all duties as assigned.
- Monitor and maintain safe operating environment
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds
- May direct activities of work study students
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of clean room safety and operating procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, instructors, clients, and staff verbally and in writing; ability to explain information to a variety of persons and instruct others in various aspects of the Nano and Micro fabrication program departments, NanoRite, and the College.
- Preferred ability to fabricate small parts and fixtures using machine tools: CNC milling machines, manual milling machines, drill presses, band saws, grinders, etc.
- Ability to utilize the computer for communication and documentation (Outlook email, Word, databases, etc.)
- Ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to travel to various locations including out of state travel to partnering facilities.
- Employment with CVTC is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s).
Necessary Training and Experience:
- Clean room experience required.
- Micro-fabrication experience preferred
- Associate degree in related field required.
- Additional specialized training preferred (such as bachelor’s degree in chemistry, physics, nano or micro specialties, etc.)
- In evaluating candidates for this position, the College may consider a combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
Position Details
Expected Start Date: As soon as possible
Position Status: Limited-term, full-time position through June 30, 2009 (with additional work possible after this date)
Location: Manufacturing and Technology Education Center/NanoRite Innovation Center-Gateway Campus, Eau Claire
Work Hours: Flexible, but pre-determined work schedule is requested. 40 hours per week during the normal business hours of Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This assignment may include weekend and evening hours based on client needs.
Salary: The hourly rate for this position $18.35 (based on pay grade I level 1 of the staff and clerical union contract) This limited-term position is grant funded.
Union Status: This position is represented by the Support Staff Union; therefore, the incumbent of this position will pay Union dues. The annual Union dues will be approximately $275, which will be taken over 20 installments during the school year.
