Title:
Mathematics Instructor (Full-time, limited-term for spring semester 2010)
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for increasing student learning through developing a relevant and progressive curriculum, designing and implementing effective learning strategies and environments, delivering instruction of high quality while keeping a safe laboratory environment, assessing student learning, , while and participating in college activities. Competencies and tasks of the position will be consistent with the educational principles of the college that focus on meeting the learning needs of students.
Responsibilities/Expectations/Accountability/Duties:
- Provide instruction to students in the area of mathematics (including calculus and possibly physics).
- Assist in the design, writing and implementation of performance based curriculum and course delivery strategies.
- Plan for instruction
- Facilitate student learning and deliver instruction
- Manage the classroom or learning site effectively
- Maintain labs appropriately
- Assist with recruitment of students
- Assess student learning Assist with course/program evaluation and continuous improvement
- May support and assist with the development of flexible instructional delivery systems. This may include on-line instruction, hybrid and Live Meeting.
- Communicate and maintain positive relations with internal and external CVTC community
- Demonstrates commitment to customer service standards.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and participate on instructional and college-wide teams
- Pursue on-going professional development
- This position may involve day, evening and weekend classes on and off campus and distance education. Classes may involve travel to other CVTC campus locations.
- Work in a team environment with the ability to support a cohesive and productive departmental atmosphere. Activities include reaching consensus at team meetings; making budget decisions; scheduling classes; maintain the lab; and being involved with College-wide activities.
- Relate successfully with students and staff of diverse cultural, social or educational backgrounds.
- Portray a positive attitude towards the students in a success oriented learning environment.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to plan, organize, instruct and facilitate educational courses of quality.
- Flexibility in schedule, including availability for day, evening, weekend or summer assignments at various locations as appropriate.
- Ability to utilize technology which supports learning and teaching.
- Ability to work with students in both one on one and group instruction situations.
- Employment with CVTC is contingent upon successful completion of background check(s).
Necessary Training and Experience:
REQUIRED:
1. Ability to meet the Wisconsin Technical College System certification requirements for Mathematics including a Bachelors Degree from an accredited institution as well as the following: Masters Degree in Mathematics preferred (but not required). At least a minor or 20 semester credits drawn from the Mathematics department, including 8 credits of calculus ******OR ******Have a major in Physics and 8 credits in calculus
AND
Twelve months (2,000 hours) of occupational experience in any field except education.
2. Computer application skills required.
3. Ability to develop computer assisted instructional units, power point presentations and use multi-media presentation stations.
4. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of criminal background check.
Position Details
Expected Start Date: January 2010
Anticipated End Date: May 2010
Position Status: Full-time, limited-term, faculty position (for spring semester 2010)
Location: Business Education Center, Clairemont Campus in Eau Claire (with travel to other CVTC campuses anticipated periodically)
Work Hours: Salaried position. Approximately 20 hours of classroom instruction and 6 required office hours each week.
Salary: Salary to be paid for this position will be commensurate with academic training and educational experience. The 2009-2010 academic-year salary schedule for a 34-week contract ranges from $46,242 with a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) to $81,086 with a Doctorate/Educational Specialist degree. Maximum placement for new instructors with a 34-week contract is $67,111. This range represent a 34- week contract and this position is approximately 50% of a 34-week contract.
