Description:
Under immediate supervision performs subprofessional environmental engineering work involving wastewater sampling and flow measurement of industrial wastewater sources, assists in the inspection of industrial pretreatment and systems, and other related assigned duties.
Essential Job Functions:
- Takes samples from the sanitary sewer system at industrial wastewater sources and records data
- Makes flow measurements of sanitary sewer lines
- Assists in the inspection of industrial facilities
- Assists in performing specialized monitoring activities to locate problem waste sources in the system
- Conducts a variety of tests utilizing specialized equipment
- Maintains detailed records and field equipment
- Operates a City vehicle

Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or possession of a General Educational Development Certificate (GED) and four (4) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, per Personnel Policies and Procedures, Section 128.
Some knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental engineering, chemistry and hydraulics; and some knowledge of sanitary sewage collection systems and treatment processes. Ability to read and interpret the sewer atlas, plans and specifications; ability to keep accurate records and statistical data; and the ability to courteously and tactfully communicate with fellow workers, supervisors, other members of the organization, and the public in giving and receiving information.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements include arm and hand steadiness and finger dexterity enough to use a telephone; occasional lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds; occasional pushing and pulling up to 60 pounds; may be subject to confined space entries, walking, standing, sitting, reaching, balancing, bending, kneeling, crawling, handling, climbing, smelling, and twisting; and vision, speech, and hearing sufficient to perform the essential tasks.
Licenses and Certificates:
Possession of a valid Oklahoma Class "D" Operator's License; and possession of a Wastewater License as issued by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
Working Environment:
Working environment is primarily outdoors and in inclement weather, and occasionally indoors; and requires some traveling to collect samples.
